Day 1 is all about bees.

Learn about the different bees in a hive, how to identify the different bees, the roles bees play in their life, the lifecycle of bees, basic beekeeping equipment, different hives and safety in the hives. We will be finishing the day opening up some beehives to experience bees first hand.

Simon Mulvany from 'Save the Bees Australia' is our Keynote speaker for Day 1, and he will also be helping us to open the bee hives together.

Day 2 is all about honey.

What is honey, how bees make honey, the health benefits of honey, marketing and labelling honey and the many different flavours of honey. Participants are encouraged to bring their favourite honey for a mega tasting event to finish off the day.

Internationally trained Australian Honey Sommelier Jessica Locarnini is our Keynote speaker for Day 2 of this event. Jessica's knowledge and skills will have you experiencing honey like never before, as you get a chance to take part in her Honey Tasting Masterclass.

Participants who book for the full 2 Day event will also receive a FREE copy of the 'Little Book of Beekeeping' written by Jenni McLeod.

Not only that, all participants will be provided with a workbook for both days, provided with connection points to a growing community of women AND the event will be fully catered with delicious food from the women elevating legends at LUUP Mornington, so all you need to do is turn up.

Simon Mulvany

Save the Bees Australia (STBA) is a social enterprise focused on community education and advocacy for Australian native bees and European honeybees. The organisation was established in 2014 by Founder and CEO, Simon Mulvany, as a rescue mission to re-home honeybee infestations and save them from extermination. Since then the organisation has saved over 400 colonies and has evolved to become the voice of bees Australia wide.

STBA focuses on educating children about the importance of pollination and the rolls indigenous bees play. STBA regularly attend schools and community groups and post informative content on our social channels.

The enterprise is often featured in mainstream media with special emphasis on the campaigns calling for pesticides to be banned and leads the action against the suspicious importing of honey and honey adulteration mostly from China which is hurting Australian Beekeepers. STBA are the voice for small businesses and apiarists with over 500,000 uses of our honey map which directly links consumers with local Australian beekeepers.

Jess’s fascination and passion for honey and bees began at an early age. This eventually led her to establish Honey Merchant in 2018. She formally trained with some of the world’s best as a Honey Sommelier and Honey Judge in the USA and Italy. Jess has lent her expertise to prestigious events such as the Sydney Royal Easter Show, Tasmanian Fine Food Awards, the Asian Apiculture Awards, Melbourne Food and Wine Festival. as well as numerous leading state honey and mead competitions and events.

She leverages her skills to highlight the distinctive qualities of Australian honey. She collaborates with apiaries, chefs, food enthusiasts, and retailers, while also educating everyday Aussies to foster a new generation of honey connoisseurs. Her mission? To elevate the profile of our unique local honey on both the national and international stage. Everyone she meets has a new appreciation that honey is so much more than ‘sweet’ and never looks at a yellow squeezy bottle the same way again.
