the great bee morning tea

The Material Institute 2a Eddington St Bridgewater
Gates open at 10am

What do Bees and Bridgewater have in common?

This year, the community is invited to find out at the Great Bee Morning Tea.

Founder of Bee Queens and event coordinator, Jenni McLeod is joining forces with the Bridgewater Local Area Bee Network to host this event at the Material Institute.

“This is the third year we have held this morning tea, with all funds raised going towards the Wheen Bee Foundation,” said Ms McLeod.

The Wheen Bee Foundation is an Australian not-for-profit charity that promotes awareness of the importance of bees for food security and raises funds for research that addresses the national and global threats to bees.

Ms McLeod said this is something all Tasmanians need to care about.

“We have the deadly bee parasite varroa mite on our doorstep, and it is devastating the bee industry across the country.

“Supporting organisations invested in the survival of bees is critical.”

Ms McLeod said that for this year’s event, there will be a series of ‘doing’ workshops, teaching attendees’ hands on bee specific skills that are useful to both new beekeepers and those with hives in their backyard.

“These will include wax rendering, mead making and insulating beehive lids for winter.

“And, for the first time since 2023 we will be showing the Beekeeping World Record documentary made by Crystal and Rose Davis from Extreme Excellence.

“Weather permitting, we will also open a beehive for inspection.

”In addition to the workshops, there will be a small market with bespoke hand made items including, honey, gin, hats and delicious Persian food..

The aim of the event this year is to encourage people not only to learn, but to imagine what is possible - all while raising funds for an organisation.

Gates open at 10am, entry by gold coin donation.
